Demio
Demio is the leading webinar for entrepreneurs, marketers and businesses in 2020. It has all the features you could possibly need to run successful webinars for your business.
Setup & Ease of Use
If there is one thing I want you to take away from this Demio review it’s that they’ve made it crazy simple to use.
Of all the webinar software I’ve used, the way that Demio layout the webinar creation flow is my favorite.
All areas of the webinar setup are laid out on one page. The hierarchy is clear and you don’t have to jump in and out of creating your event to make changes to any “master settings”. Everything is there on one page.
Not only that, but the product is well designed and the transitions are smooth. Click a section and it opens swiftly and smoothly.
To get started simply select the type of webinar you want.
You can choose from all the expected formats:
- Live webinars – a standard webinar that you present live
- Automated webinars /On-demand – upload a video or select a recording from your video library in Demio
- Series webinars – A series of live webinars
Fortunately, all webinars are recorded in HD video and saved as MP4s. So no need to worry about that!
Presenting & Audience Engagement Features
Unlike most webinar software, Demio doesn’t have a variety of presentation layouts.
I can only assume that for the sake of simplicity they have limited the platform to two layout options. Firstly, you can have the host(s) on webcam, and secondly the main presentation mode where the hosts are above the presentation.
You can’t move the placement of your webcam. It is always fixed to the top. Not a big concern to me.
Webinar attendee experience
Like most webinar software Demio comes with standard features like:
- A browser-based software with no downloads
- HD sound as well as video
- Attendee Polls
- Attendee handouts
- Emoji’s in chat (2020 social media style and not 2007 MSN)
One thing that is great is that they have data centers globally – rather than just where they are based in the US.
This is great for international audiences who would otherwise face lots of buffering.
A unique feature I appreciated is that the software also has mentions. This is like tagging someone on Twitter. Very useful for moderators not missing messages in chat.
But also great for attendees to answer each other’s questions.
Chat mentions
In reviews I always make sure to note the next useful feature – Demio has the option to invite attendees to the stage. You can take advantage of this functionality by asking attendees to jump on the mic and ask you questions directly. This is great for making your live webinar far more engaging.
By far the most impactful webinar feature in 2020 and beyond.
Webinar registration and funnel pages
When it comes to the registration pages – there is minimal customization.
There is only one template, so all customer pages will have the same look and feel.
Depending on your outlook this could be positive or not.
You can only Customize:
- The headline
- The subheadline
- Description
- The video (optional)
- Background color
- Featured image
- Your logo.
While that list might look like a lot. The layout is practically static.
So customization is minimal…
But it does mean after you’ve set up your branded colors once you’re done with it!
More time to focus on creating a great attendee experience and marketing your webinars.
For me, I think this style of landing page can work well for a warm audience. They know and trust you, so you’re just trying to buy their time with the content on offer.
But cold audiences are much more fickle.
Many who hit the page won’t know or trust you. In that case, you really want to be able to build that trust.
Templated pages like this don’t give you the biggest opportunity to do that.
But fortunately, they load super-fast, responsive and look great!
I’ll cover using 3rd party landing page software in the next section.
Let’s talk registration forms
The Demio forms are pretty great in terms of customization. By default, your forms are preset to have just two fields (name and email).
Embeddable forms
You can easily add many of the more commonly used fields provided by Demio by clicking on them. Which is fast and handy.
But you can also add your own custom fields. Eg if you want to ask budgets or any other more specific question. These are painless to add and are created in the same wizard.
Note, custom fields aren’t available on the lowest tier subscription.
But all fields have the option to make required or optional.

Other platforms fumble the ball when it comes to the setup for forms. But Demio definitely gets it right.
A feature that I really appreciate is that you can have Demio automatically verify the email and website fields. If they can’t be verified then Demio won’t allow the form to be submitted!
Very handy for preventing simple user errors or low commitment tyre-kickers.
Another feature that Demio doesn’t sell well is the one-click registration option. This makes it super easy for existing email subscribers to sign up for your webinar.
Though there are a couple of things to beware of.
If you’re in Europe and have enabled the GDPR settings you can’t use it. Though there is no mention of California for the US which has similar regulations.
Secondly, if you have a custom field set as a required form field – setting it as optional solves this problem.
Picking back up on 3rd party landing pages
Demio follows suit with the standard approach here – an embed code.
Just create your form, select share, copy the embed code, and embed it on your own landing page.
They only have guides for Clickfunnels and Leadpages in their customer knowledge center. But this is a super common way of connecting forms so you can use it anywhere.
You can embed it the exact same way with Instapage, Optimize Press, WordPress, or even Wix.
I like the way they’ve designed this part of the product.
It makes it super easy to power through and doesn’t get in your way. With a webinar having so many moving pieces, trust me you’ll appreciate it!
Email automation
Much like the rest of this review, Demio does a great job at getting out of your way. The interface is simple and instantly usable.
Email notifications wizard
However, this does come at a cost.
You can only use the emails and cadence that they’ve set out for you. There is no customization at all on this front.
If you want to send a more personal sequence then this won’t be sufficient for you. You’ll need to manage this through your email autoresponder (I cover these in the next section).
As to the emails themselves, they are super simple and are mostly prepopulated for you.
Again, this doesn’t allow you to get too creative. But if for busy marketers like me looking for standard notifications then who cares!
You can blast through the emails without much thought and still look great.
Email notifications example
Compared to other software, the functionality is just as good as WebinarNinja but less customizable. While being a lot better designed than EasyWebinar.
Platform Integrations
Integrations are where I had to do a bit of digging in this Demio review.
Their marketing pages aren’t the best at selling the full functionality that they have on offer.
But luckily, when using the platform and reading the customer support information I was able to surface some interesting features.
Firstly, as you’d expect Demio integrates with all of the standard email auto-responders, including:
- Active campaign
- Aweber
- ConvertKit
- Drip
- Get Response
- Infusionsoft
- Ontraport
- Mailchimp
- Market Hero
- Marketo (Only on business)
As well as many more with Zapier.
But, more interestingly Demio also offers a REST API. Meaning you can integrate with your own marketing stack natively.
This feature is something generally reserved for the more enterprise focussed products. And generally with a price-tag starting significantly higher!
Quite the win, if you’re a tech-savvy business. This lets you truly integrate webinars into your marketing stack. Rather than just being a side channel that doesn’t integrate well.
Another integration that I really appreciate is the ability to insert third party code into your webinar funnel.
Another area they are not good at marketing themselves on…
But it is near seamless to implement.
And you’ll find that it’s easy to find.
Using this feature you can insert your code for your:
- Facebook marketing Pixel
- Google remarketing pixel
- Google Tag Manager
- Google analytics
This is a great opportunity for customers to track and report on the impact their marketing is having on attendee figures.
But this is a big opportunity and is very well implemented.
Now, what I wasn’t so pleased with Demio’s integration options.
There are no native CRM integrations.
For any B2B business, this is a standard requirement.
However, if you are tech-savvy then I imagine you can use the API to send data. Or like me, you just send it via Zapier.
Reporting and analytics
Demio’s reporting and analytics view are mostly pretty standard with one very cool additional statistic I haven’t seen elsewhere.
Rather than only showing the percentage that attended (which is there)… They also show you how many of the attendees “were focused”.
“Focused” means that the webinar browser tab is open. If the user switches to another browser tab they are then not counted. This is such a handy feature as a webinar host I’m surprised no one else thought of it.
You can also access:
- Graphs on registrations, by date
- Percentage of registrations who attended.
- Average time attended
As with many other platforms, you can download and export all this data for analysis.
What stands out to me is how well presented the graphs are. The effort put into design has a serious impact here.
No one wants to look at ugly graphs that look like Excel in the 90s.
Great work Demio design team!
Customer Support
Customer support is one of Demio’s big selling points. You only have to check out their website to see how heavily they focus on it.
Looking at their advertised support response times, you’ll see they’re pretty fast.
Standard support 1 hour response time.
Priority Support 10 minute response time.
As a standard most webinar software has “standard support” which is a reply to an email within 24 hours. Though some platforms have live chat which is no doubt a lot faster. However, almost none offer 24/7 customer support.
This is a strong differentiator for European and Asian businesses. Most competitors are USA-centric meaning workhours in Europe often fall in out-of-hours in America.
If you’d like it, they also offer one-on-one demo’s to help get you up to speed fast.
Demio Price
Demio pricing starts at $42/month, on an annual plan for 50 attendees and only live webinars.
The “growth” plan comes in at $75/month for paid yearly for 150 attendees and has automated events, custom form fields, and no branding.
The “premium” plan comes in at $184/month (again, paid yearly) for 150 attendees. But you also get a dedicated account manager and 10-minute priority support.
You can get a bigger room, but they have a hard limit of 3000 attendees… And you have to speak to sales to get this.
Demio advertises some pretty big businesses as customers. Like AppSumo, Drip, OptimizePress, etc. So it’s Interesting to see the pricing lean heavily towards mid to low tiers.
My thoughts on Demio pricing:
- The Demio 14 day free trial is limited to only 20 attendees with the features of the “growth” plan.
The length of the trial is standard but I’m not a fan of limiting attendees on a free trial. I’d expect this on a freemium model (like LiveStorm or Clickmeeting). But if I’m about to commit to a software, I want to test it out for my use-case.
- There a limited room sizes on self-serve. If you want more than 500 attendees then you have to speak with sales. Who’s got time for sales calls?
- There is Demio branding in your emails and presentation on the lowest plan. Not a fan of this.
Demio Review Conclusion
Demio is for you if:
- You want a reliable HD webinar software
- You want to get up and running fast and don’t mind the lack of customization
- You don’t need more than 1000 attendees per webinar
Demio is not for you if:
- You must have a native integration with your CRM
- You need to have more than 1000 attendees
I mentioned it at the start so I’ll end with this comment – Demio is stupidly simple to use! There is so little you have to do to get up and running that there are literally no excuses!
However, this does come at the cost of customization and personalization. This is easily overcome by integrating your own landing pages and email autoresponder. But many want this customization built-in.
